people really need to stop to reposting my work, and changing it from poetry to quotes, erasing titles, changing grammar and capitilization. unfortunately, the people who keep doing this are white, and it is definitely striking that cord of disrespect and appropriation. i know many people do not enjoy the structure of my poetry, and they see quotes around it and they make assumptions, this is offensive. i notice it happens a whole lot. stop. it is not yours, to disfigure and decide upon, to make it more comfortable for you, to your liking. i am very aware i am on tumblr, and you don’t have control of how folks treat your work, but my people rarely, if ever do this, so, it is not about this. it is about white privilege and racism and people fully expressing it.

People did that to Emily Dickinson. That’s why I don’t appreciate grammar nazis though I love good writing. As long as it makes sense and it communicates, why fix the grammar? Because it follows the norm? You hit the nail on the head, it’s uncomfortable. Dickinson’s poems are purposefully uncomfortable in pacing and leaving things unrhymed, feeling almost like it’s unfinished, which I love because it just pushes me to read the poem again and again. e.e. cummings was another that used capitalization only when absolutely on purpose. He wouldn’t even allow his name capitalized.

for real..

Macaroni wigs at the time were extremely fashionable and this led to Macaroni being a contemporary slang for foppishness/fashionable. Doodle meant idiot and Yankee was a term for Colonials. Sooooo basically the ryhme is saying “Americans are such uncivilized dickheads that they could stick a feather in their cap and think themselves fancy.”

… And why was I not taught this in school alongside the years of repetitive American history?

They should start having “Unedited American History 101” in schools..

Great example of knowing the words but still needing to admit you have no idea, so you can find other meanings for the time period so you know what the hell is going on.
